Literature Text

we met near the bank where the rich
people of town tucked money away, across
the street where buses kissed the curb
and dropped off gifts in the form
of businessmen and mothers. bridal shops
sighed on every corner, waiting for princes
from faraway places to make use
of their dresses, and i held a laugh
in my teeth because i preferred pants. you

wore shorts and a t-shirt and caught
the last of summer's sun in your eyes. we
parked the car beside a yellow stripe
and talked about the lack of cracks
in the sidewalk, and the sophisticated
street names like Grand Ave., and the way
no other area seemed to have authentic slices
of pizza but our notorious tri-state. that night,
we kissed for the first time like millionaires.
What a title.

Written for a boy about the first time we met.

Wow, this is just beautiful.

Such a romantic view of the city, as well, compared to what I'm used to.
